Working With Us: Engagement Protocols for External Stakeholders

Empowered Young Leaders Aboriginal Corporation (EYL AC) is the recognised youth peak body for the Kimberley region. We are an Aboriginal organisation governed by young people, for young people, with a strong regional presence through our place based Local Youth Advisory Councils (LYACs).

We welcome meaningful collaboration that aligns with our values, governance structures and vision for youth led change. To ensure respectful, coordinated and effective engagement, all stakeholders are required to follow the below process when seeking to work with EYL AC and consult with Kimberley Aboriginal youth.

Step 1: Formal Request for Engagement

Submit a formal request in writing to the EYL AC Board via the website (contact us) or to the EYL Lead Hazali.Danna@wkfec.org.au
Your request should include:

  • Organisation/Department name and contact details

  • Purpose of engagement and relevance to Kimberley youth

  • Proposed project/initiative scope

  • Desired timeframes

  • Any anticipated resource requirements (e.g. meetings, travel, facilitation)

  • Whether the request is seeking input, partnership, endorsement or promotion

Step 2: Review by EYL AC Board

All external engagement requests are reviewed by the EYL AC Board. This step ensures:

  • Alignment with EYL AC’s mission, current work priorities and youth interests

  • Governance protocols are respected

  • Risks of duplication or over consultation are managed

If your request is time-sensitive, please indicate this clearly in your submission.

Step 3: Response and Next Steps

Following review, you will receive a written response confirming:

  • Whether the engagement is approved, declined or requires further clarification

  • Next steps, including any meeting arrangements, youth leader involvement or co-design processes

  • Any expectations regarding remuneration, communications or reporting

Step 4: Ongoing Communication and Engagement

If approved, the EYL Lead will coordinate the engagement.
Mutual accountability is expected:

  • Remains youth-led and culturally safe

  • Reflects the principle of “Nothing About Us Without Us”

  • Builds capacity and contributes to long-term impact for Kimberley youth

  • EYL AC does not provide blanket endorsement of external initiatives.

  • We prioritise genuine partnerships that value the time, leadership and lived experience of our members.
